Shoulder Pain Relief

Understanding Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain shows up in the small moments. Reaching for a cabinet. Swinging a golf club. Rolling over in bed. It’s the joint with the most range of motion in your body, so it has the most ways to go wrong. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists treat every kind of shoulder problem, from rotator cuff tears to arthritis.

Common shoulder problems we treat

  • Rotator cuff injury. A tear or inflammation in the tendons that move your shoulder.

  • Frozen shoulder. Stiffness that gradually limits how far you can move your arm.

  • Arthritis. Wear on the joint. Often a deep ache that worsens with activity.

  • Impingement. Tendons catching or pinching with overhead motion.

  • Labral tear or instability. Often from sports, a fall, or repetitive overhead motion.

  • An old injury that never fully healed. A shoulder that hasn’t felt the same since a past dislocation.

You don’t need to know which one this is before you come in. That’s what the evaluation is for.

Diagnosis and what treatment can look like

We check your range of motion and strength. We ask which movements set off the pain. If needed, we order imaging, an X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound, on the same visit. From there, treatment can include physical therapy, activity modification, an injection, a minimally invasive repair, or, when the joint has worn out, shoulder replacement. We start with the least invasive option that fits your shoulder.

Recovery

Many patients feel real relief within weeks of starting therapy or an injection. Surgery takes longer. Physical therapy plays a big part in getting your strength back. Most patients return to golf, gardening, and sleeping through the night without shoulder pain.

Why Advanced Orthopedic Center

We have four Southwest Florida offices: Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Venice, and North Port. Over 40 years of caring for local families. No referral needed; you can schedule directly with a board-certified specialist. Imaging and physical therapy are in-house, so you’re not bounced between offices for basic steps. We treat surgery as a last resort, not a first recommendation.

What does a rotator cuff tear feel like?

A dull ache deep in the shoulder, weakness when lifting your arm, and pain that often worsens at night. Some tears cause a specific catch or pop with certain movements.
