Elbow Pain Relief

Understanding Elbow Pain

It shows up in the grip of everything. A racquet swing. A handshake. Lifting a grandchild or a bag of groceries. Elbow pain often gets dismissed as overuse long after it’s stopped being minor. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists treat everything from tennis elbow to arthritis.

Common elbow problems we treat

  • Tennis elbow.Inflammation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, from repetitive gripping.

  • Golfer’s elbow. The same kind of tendon irritation on the inside of the elbow.

  • Bursitis.Swelling of the small cushioning sac at the tip of the elbow.

  • Arthritis.Wear on the joint. Often stiffness and aching.

  • Ligament injury or instability.Often from sports, a fall, or repetitive strain.

  • Fracture.From a fall or direct impact.

You don’t need to know which one this is before you come in. That’s what the evaluation is for.

Diagnosis and what treatment can look like

We check your grip strength and range of motion. We ask what activities set off the pain. If needed, we order an X-ray or MRI the same visit. From there, treatment can include physical therapy, bracing, an injection, a minimally invasive repair, or, when conservative care hasn’t worked, surgery. We start with the least invasive option that fits your elbow.

Recovery

Many patients feel real relief within weeks of starting therapy or an injection. Surgery takes longer. Physical therapy plays a big part in getting your strength back. Most patients return to golf, tennis, and lifting the grandkids without elbow pain slowing them down.

Why Advanced Orthopedic Center

We have four Southwest Florida offices: Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Venice, and North Port. Over 40 years of caring for local families. No referral needed; you can schedule directly with a board-certified specialist. Imaging and physical therapy are in-house, so you’re not bounced between offices for basic steps. We treat surgery as a last resort, not a first recommendation.

What's the difference between tennis elbow and golfer's elbow?

Tennis elbow causes pain on the outside of the elbow, usually from gripping or lifting with your palm down. Golfer's elbow causes pain on the inside, usually from gripping with your palm up. Both come from tendon overuse, not just the sports they're named for.
