Understanding Sports Medicine
Whether you’re a competitive athlete, a weekend player, or someone who just wants to stay active, our sports medicine team treats the injuries that come with an active life. Our specialists work with local high schools, college programs, and professional teams, including the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves Spring Training, so treating athletes at every level is part of our daily work.
Common Injuries We Treat
Ligament tears. Including ACL, MCL, and other ligament injuries from sports or sudden movement.
Tendon injuries. Tendinitis and tears from repetitive motion or overuse.
Sprains and strains. Ankle, knee, and shoulder sprains from activity or impact.
Overuse injuries. Pain that builds gradually from repetitive training or motion.
Cartilage and joint injuries. Damage from pivoting, impact, or repeated stress on a joint.
You don’t need to know the exact injury before you come in. That’s what the evaluation is for.
Diagnosis and what treatment can look like
We evaluate the injury, get imaging if needed, and build a plan around getting you back to your sport or activity safely. That starts with the most conservative option that makes sense, physical therapy, bracing, or activity modification, and moves to surgery only when it’s truly needed for a full recovery.
Recovery
Recovery timelines depend on the injury and how it’s treated. Many sports injuries improve significantly within weeks of starting therapy. More serious ligament or cartilage repairs take longer, and we’ll give you a specific timeline for returning to your sport, not a generic estimate.
